#2 How do I reset PSP ???? Close Paint Shop Pro. Launch Paint Shop Pro again. As soon as you start the program, hold down Ctrl-Alt. It will ask you to Delete all program registries. Click Yes. Click OK on the file association window. Let it load It starts you back as if you just launched PSP for the first time Don't worry you don't loose your tubes It just resets the program
#3 If you've got a little 7 glitch slowing things up here's a quickie cleanup you can try: Close all currently open running programs, including Paint Shop Pro Clean out your Windows Temp folder & delete all those files. Yes, it is safe to dump them all. Windows Explorer> Jasc Software Inc> Paint Shop Pro7> Cache > delete all the files in that Cache folder. Don't worry, they'll rebuild when you restart the program. Reset your PSP registry -> Do it either the traditional way or the easy way. Fire up your PSP & see if things have improved. If no, close PSP and try the suggestion below. Control/Alt/Delete & End Task on "ALL" applications and programs running in the background. You'll need to leave Systray and Explorer running along with any special mouse software, but generally everything else can be shut off. If your situation looks better, begin returning those background running programs "one at a time" to ascertain if any of those little fellas just might be the interfering culprit.
#4 Take A tour Of PSP From Jasc Software
#5 Tube all of your creations BEFORE adding a background and saving to jpeg or gif. There are many things that you make that you want to use again and again. Especially when you start making scenes and settings. PSP7 has a wonderful feature ~~ it’s called the UNDO **giggle** When you are done with your creation, before adding your background, make all layers visible. Go to layers-->merge-->merge visible. It’s okay we can undo it when we’re done, trust me! Now go to File-->Export-->Picture tube and give your tube a unique name. At the beginning of all of my names I use the initials SS (for Sunshine of course **giggle**) and then the name I want it to be. After you have exported your tube go to Edit-->Undo (Ctrl+Z) and you will be back to all of your layers.
#6 OK here it is I call this "The Scarry Big Fix" And for good reason. You are editing your registry files I would suggest before EVEN thinking of doing this You copy and print this and read it carefully NOTE: Before you begin the process detailed below The windows registry is the core of your operating system Errors made in eidting the registry could damage your Operating System Now that I scared the crap out of you know that I have done this twice and had no problems ok. So here goes: If the fixes above didn't work you need to do this You can contact me and I would be glad to talk you though this Or you can contact Jasc Software Inc. Technical Support Team at 952-930-9171 OK are we ready now?? Close Paint Shop Pro Click "Start", choose "Run" and type "REGEDIT" (NO "'s) Click OK. This opens the Registry Editor (looks a bit scarry huh). Ok Click Registry>Export Registry File, choose a filename and Location you will remember to save this. Then hit the save key. This file can serve as a backup if we screw up here (**giggle**) OK now we can move on to deleting the PSP Registry Key Click on the plus sign (+) next to HKEY_CURRENT_USER. You will see a list of HKEYS drop down underneath this HKEY One of these HKEY's is called SOFTWARE. Click on the plus sign (+) next to Software HKEY You will see a list of HKEYS drop down underneath The Software HKEY One of these HKEYS is called Jasc. Click on the WORD JASC to highlight this key. OK YOU CAN GASP NOW Hit the delete key on your keyboard Confirm the deletion when prompted After deleting the Jasc HKEY, you can close the Registry Editor Launch PSP and it will act like a fresh Installation Now you can breath again.
#6 Clean Your Cache Often ~~ Starting to have your tubes and/or preset shapes showing double when you try to use them? Then it's time to clean your cache in PSP. In Windows Explorer navigate to Program Files-->JASC, Inc.-- >PaintShopPro7-->Cache. Open the folder and delete everything that is in there. DO NOT DELETE THE FOLDER only the contents of the folder. When you restart your PSP it will rebuild your cache and remove all of the duplicates that you had.
#7 I got this idea from a group for tubers that I am in Here is how I have my PSP File/Preferences/File Locations/Plugins set up
#8 By using your right mouse button, you can "unerase" using your eraser tool. Comes in handy when you're cleaning up an image for a tube and your mouse "slips". No need to hit the undo button and lose everything you've just done - just "unerase" those pixels back in.
#9 You can export any vector object as a shape. If you've created a vector shape you'd like to use over again, go to File/Export/Shape to add it to your Shapes Library. (I found out the hard way that the object will show up with the name of the shape in your Layers Palette, NOT the name you give it when you export, so rename the vector layer BEFORE exporting!)
#10 You can save any selection which is active in your image. Save to the Alpha Channel to have the selection available while you are working on your image, or save to disk for any future use. (Selections/Save to Disk)
#11 You can save everything you have open in Paint Shop Pro, in exactly the place you are working by using the "Save Workspace" function. You can find this option under File/Workspace in your PSP menu or by adding the icon you see here to your toolbar. This is a great tool to use when you are in the middle of creating an image and you have several images open. PSP will remember each image you have open at the time you save your workspace. A "MUST" for any tutorial writer. Once you save your workspace, open it again and every image you had open when you saved will reopen and you're ready to go....no more searching for the different images you had open when you had to go do something else.
#12 Ever had your program begin to seem sluggish, like you're dragging your mouse through molasses? You're probably using too much memory. Emptying your command history may help. You can find this option under Edit/Empty Clipboard and/or Edit/Empty Command History
# 13 Here's something everyone has experienced in PSP Ok you are working on a project you are typing some text All the sudden your options pallet or your colors pallet Disapears -- what is happening ?? You have your auto save set most likely It is attemtping to save your psp images Stop typing close the font dialog box that is open Auto save completes now. Ok go to your view - Options Reopen the boxes that closed Now you can continue with your project
